Actinides!

The elements that are below the Lanthanides are the Actinides. Our element is in period 7 and between groups 2 and 3. In our group we have the elements: Actinium, Thorium, Protactinium, Uranium, Neptunium, Plutonium, Americium, Curium, Berkelium, Californium, Einsteinium, Fermium, Mendelevium, and Nobelium. Actinides are known as solids. Some physical characteristics of Actinides include shininess, malleability, and conductivity. Some chemical properties are that they are so unstable that once they are created, they last for only a fraction of a second after they are made, usually react by losing electrons to other atoms, and reacts slowly with oxygen in the air. Some fun facts about Actinides are that there are alternative arrangements to the Actinide family such as actinum and lawrencium, some of the elements are fairly abundant in the earths crust, and that Uranium is named after Uranus. Many of the elements are used commonly. Some of them are: Uranium- great importance as a nuclear fuel and Plutonium- is successful use as an explosive ingredient in nuclear weapons.
